Wirral council have presented a new regeneration plan that is very similar to the "Option 4" plan presented to them by Mark Craig, chair of the New Ferry Residents Association.
The first 3 options presented by council during the consultation process, received quite a negative reception from many in the community. Many objected to the fact that there was no plan for any new retails space to replace those lost during the explosion, and those scheduled for demolition. Many traders felt certain that the loss of the majority of the public car park would have likely resulted in a dramatic loss of trade.
This new plan not only includes new retails premises for businesses wanting to open in New Ferry, but it also retains a significantly higher number of public parking spaces. It has therefore been well received.
